Multiblade Rotorhead for TRex 450

Postby Stryker48 on Tue Oct 20, 2009 11:39 am

Hi,

I'm looking to build a scale Hughes 500D defender (Align) and possibly looking to go with a 5 blade rotorhead and looking for some good advice from those who have done the same with their TRex 450.

My questions are:
1. Which manufacturer offeres the best 5 blade rotor head?
2. What size blades would one use? (I'm assuming shorter than stock)
3. Would a more powerful motor and ESC be needed to accommodate the fiberglass fuse & 5 blade rotor head ?
4. What else would be needed, other than the actual 5 blade rotor head?
5. Is it more difficult to control with a multi blade system?

Any advice in this regard would be grately appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

1. Try this one: http://www.rc-expert.com/lightning-heli ... -1239.html

2. You’d probably want to go with 300mm – 325mm blades.

3. Possibly, it would depend on what you have now. It may be ok, because you won’t be flying much 3D if any which a scale copter.

4. You’d need a new swashplate (most heads come with them) and probably longer tail (or more) blades to compensate for the increased thrust.

5. Yes, because there’s no flybar to soften stick movements and help compensate it will react faster and be twitchier, though with 5 blades, it shouldn’t be too difficult if you’re a decent pilot and you can soften it some by adding expo on your radio.
If you haven't crashed recently - then you haven't been flying enough!
