Swift 16 on the way!

Postby RCSpeedy on Fri Nov 07, 2008 4:23 pm

I just ordered my first Heli the Swift 16 and I can't wait to get it. Of course in the docs, it mentioned I needed a couple of things to get it up and running. Any suggestions on where and what specifically I should buy?

PG2000 II Dual Rate Piezo Gyro #CN2018
Brushless Electric Motor
#CNE455 Electron 55 Brushless Speed Control with Heat Sink
6 Channel Heli radio or better with 120degree eCCPM mixing required
Powerplant battery pack 4S-6S LiPo or 12 Cell NiMH

There were also some optional items I could upgrade to. Should I look into any of these?

Fiberglass canopy, carbon main blades and machined CNC parts.

(BTW - what are CNC parts?)

Thanks!

Congrats! i wouldn't worry about the upgrades just yet. Get a feel for it first - besides you wouldn't wanted to wreck a nice canopy and blades in your first crash!

Talk to the guys at Tower Hobbies to get the parts you'll need to get it going. I'd say a lipo battery is definitely perferable.

Best of luck!

Thanks Bob. I think I'm just too excited - so many fun aspects to this hobby. Though I will have to get those parts that are needed. (You're right, I'll skip the xtras... for now... )

I'd go with more name brand parts like a Futaba GY401 or JR 700 gyro, Outrage or TP LiPo's, and a Kontronic or Scorpion ESC and a Scorpion brushless motor.
If you haven't crashed recently - then you haven't been flying enough!

Ok Newbie Question alert... what exactly does LiPo mean? Are there special handling instructions?

LiPo stands for Lithium Polymer. It's what makes the batteries smaller, lighter and more powerful. Rechargeable lithium batteries from Duracell or Energizer are probably ones that yo have seen before. Heli versions are a bit different. You can read more about them here:
