TRex 450

Postby patmmr on Sat Feb 14, 2009 12:36 pm

Can any one help me out? I'm just building a 450 , but what I want to know is I already have a gas Thunder tiger o.43 engine at 2800 rpms is this big enough to put into a 450 Hellicopter, I really don't care about arobatics at this time. I'm just wondering if it is big enough to put that 450 in the sky. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, that should be enough power for mild flying, but might not cut it for 3D... not sure why you wouldn't want to go electric though. It will be a lot less hassle than converting it over for nitro...

Thanks for the advise, but the reason I was thinking nitro and with only a 0.43 is because I figuard it would be a little sluggish , let me explain, I have a HoneyBee CP2 (grapola) but when I fly it it's so fast and responive if I just touch the stick to go right it's crazy it turns to fast for me. I've only been flying for less than a year. My friend said to take the servo arms out of the middle slots and put them back into the very top slots on the arms and it won't be so touchy. Is that true. This why my thinking of nitro with that engine would be like flying an elephent. Or should I just put a smaller electric engine. Thanks again for your time. This site is great, I've been telling every one that's into this hobby about this site.

With an electric heli and the right pinion, you can make it as sluggish as you'd like by changing the headspeed.

You can also adjust the endpoints (or ATV's) in your radio to make the cyclic less sensitive. Moving the hole on the servo arms in would accomplish the same thing, but I wouldn't recommend doing it that way.

You can also use EXPO to soften the control around center stick which makes it less sensitive without loosing full cyclic control.

Thanks for the help. Here is another question, this might sound a little stupid but here's goes. I'm still building the 450, but if I took the motor and the 4in1 gyro out of the Honeybee CP2 would that all work. because at this time I don't want the speed I just want to get the feel of this heli. also I have extra motors from my boat they are 500 size would that be better for now. My train of thought is once I get the feel of things then later on down the road I'll pick up a good brushless motor and a good gyro etc. but do you think the 4in1 would work with either one of those motors. Thank ytou in advance.

Hey dude, sorry, the motor / ESC would be way underpowered and the gyro would likely not be god enough to hold the tail.

Also, the 4 in 1 won't have anywhere near enough power to power a larger motor.

I have a spare set of a stock esc / motor for the trex 450 if you want – just make me an offer.

Thanks,

Thanks I really appreciate all the time your putting into this to help.Though you probebly think I'm crazy. Let me explain, Ive only been into this for about a year, I've been flying that HoneyBee CP2 (pc of junk) and have spent hours on the simulater (Clairview) So I went to www.hobbycity.com and purchased that Trex knock off KIT for $35.00 no instructions but went to gether like a piece of cake. Now because I'm out of work I'll have to buy everything for the 450 one picec at a time, this is why I thought I might be able to use the honey bee parts, but from what you tell me they won;t work. I just caught a break on ebay and bought an Opti 6 Transmiter for
$69.00 so eventually I'll get there buying a piece at a time. but whatever you have to get for the motor get back to me and let me know.also I have a 5 channel Futaba reciever do you think I can get away with that for now.You have no Idea how much I appreciate all this help. Thanks again Pat. P.S. if your not famliar with this kit go check it out, it's unbelieveable for the price, all the parts can be changed out if they break with the Trex parts.

Hey Pat, you'll need a 6 channel receiver for a heli.

You need 3 channels for the cyclic / collective, one for the tail, one for the gyro sensitivity and one for the throttle, so a 5 channel receiver won't work.

Did the radio come with a receiver?

Thanks for getting back to me. No I just got the radio and the instruction booklet. but there is the spectra modual in the radio so they say I can change the channel on the radio to match any crystel. It seems like a cool radio. again I'm doing everything on a shoestring. So I guess I'm going to need a -6 channel reciever, a gyro, a motor, and a ESC. if you know Anyone selling these parts let me know, but keep in mind in the beginning , I don't want 3d or anything ,just to fly it would be great. then later on down the road I'll get into all the good stuff. Let me know if you need my e-mail address for anthing Thanks. you've been a great help. Pat.

Here's a couple of photos from that $35.00 kit I didn't put the blades or the canopy in the photos, but you get everything in the kit. check it out
